This contradicts about the whole point of MARP, that is:For some, leaderboard whoring is fun. Some don't take this stuff as serious as others and just enjoy playing different games and competing on a leaderboard. Others spend enourmous amounts of time perfecting a few games and think being number one on those few titles is rewarding. Some are casual gamers who will never be good enough to hold a #1 spot on a highly contested title so they compete on other games and the leaderboard. Some are bat shit amazingly tallented who can seemingly destroy a game anytime they put their mind to it. Can't we all just get along and have fund doing our own thing?
Because obviously, we all search on YouTube or NicoNicoDouga for players that plays for the first time on a given game, oh yeah.2. If MAME's goal, as Nicola Salmoria has stated, is to emulate the arcade game as closely as possible, then MARP's goal is to emulate the experience of "watching a virtual master play an arcade game", true to the arcade experience, as closely as possible.
If my statement contradicts what MARP is all about then I guess I need to consider not being part of this anymore. I play games to have fun and if a bunch of folks are gonna act like jerks because mine/others gameplay isn't good enough for them, then I am most certainly not going to part of that.Zhorik wrote:Also keep in mind MARP Rule 2n - "Submit only games that you feel are worthy of the notice of other MARPers, owing either to personal effort, or display of skill"

That rule 2n is about as dumb as it gets. Not only is it subjective but if a few who have posted in this thread were the police of this rule, then two thirds of the inp's on this site should just be deleted. You could justify deleting all of the gambling game scores based on this rule. Also, if you're going to follow this rule, then scores from competition should almost never be posted. Why have a rule if you aren't going to enforce it except when you want to make someone feel bad?
Happy gaming.
Oh well, I take quality over quantity all days. Because well, I once was just like simpsons99, and got WAY more police abuse than this thread (go figure). But then realized that putting shit inps on this site is just a waste of my and others time. And dunno you, but I quite don't like being judged bad by anybody just because I've exploited the faults of the system.dickmoreland wrote:If my statement contradicts what MARP is all about then I guess I need to consider not being part of this anymore. I Completely agree with this.Zhorik wrote:Also keep in mind MARP Rule 2n - "Submit only games that you feel are worthy of the notice of other MARPers, owing either to personal effort, or display of skill"
I think the leaderboard actively encourages violation of this rule.
I don't think that they should be deleted, but for sure they are useless.dickmoreland wrote:That rule 2n is about as dumb as it gets. Not only is it subjective but if a few who have posted in this thread were the police of this rule, then two thirds of the inp's on this site should just be deleted.
Yea, I personally would delete them, but (given MARP's reason to exist) I only ask to archive them.dickmoreland wrote:You could justify deleting all of the gambling game scores based on this rule.
Competitions are worthy of the notice of other MARPers.dickmoreland wrote:Also, if you're going to follow this rule, then scores from competition should almost never be posted.
Rule 2n has never been used (that I know of) to remove any scores. It is more of a "spirit" rule. And yes, it is subjective, but it isn't intended to be subjective in terms of disqualifying replays because the "gameplay isn't good enough". It's subjective in that it requires the player submitting the score to genuinely feel his replay reflects personal effort or a display of skill. So even if it's a replay of 10K on Donkey Kong, provided the player made a genuine effort in getting that score, it doesn't violate the spirt of Rule 2n.dickmoreland wrote:That rule 2n is about as dumb as it gets.
