Re: Games who might deserve a split
Starting to investigate these potential splits...
• Marvel Land (Japan version only) has "Easy" and "Normal" mode. Us version has only one mode.
• Rabio Lepus/Rabbit Punch Normal / Expert mode
• Phelios / Easy, Hard
• Megatech -columns / easy , normal , hard
• WonderBoy2 in MonsterLand / score or gold

Re: Games who might deserve a split
Would calling for a vote be the correct avenue regarding Battle Garegga, or is that something that you feel should be left alone?
Re: Games who might deserve a split
Battle Garegga should be Japan by default, period. A vote is just a way to take time for something rather obvious to do.
Since we are there, Space Invaders / Qix Silver Anniversary Edition (invqix) needs splitting between Space Invaders and Qix for obvious reasons.

I've already independently requested this and was turned down, resulting in the removal of a 10.3 million run I did on the JP settings.Kale wrote:Battle Garegga should be Japan by default, period. A vote is just a way to take time for something rather obvious to do.

Well, let's put it on a vote, then.

Re: Games who might deserve a split
For sure, invqix needs split (-inv & -qix), I'm sure Pat will proceed quickly.
Concerning marvland/rabiolep/rpunch/phelios :
seems the same course (but I'm not an expert on these games, and I miss some practice to go far on them and compare all), only difficulty looks different.
mt_cols : same gameplay, only difficulty is different.
So I don't see any reason to split any of them
Finally for bgaregga, I'm ok for a vote, but I have a question first :
if we allow jp dipswitch, what do we do with previous scores made with default europe ?
all scores mixed ? does jp dip allow higher scores ?

Re: Games who might deserve a split
For Battle Garegga, DIP switches for extend settings vary. For Japan, the default extends are every 1M points, for all other regions, the default is no extends whatsoever. There may be some slight variations in game mechanics, also.
Japan region:
Extends every 1M <-> Extends at 1M and 2M only
All other regions:
No extend <-> Extends every 2M

Marvel Land: Easy has a different amount of enemies in later schemes and different boss-sequencePhil Lamat wrote:Concerning marvland/rabiolep/rpunch/phelios :

Phelios has a completely different last round and last boss
Both take some scheme in easy mode from normal mode

Re: Games who might deserve a split
The game has a notorious (within the shmup communities at least) dynamic difficulty system that accelerates at a much faster rate in the Japanese settings, which is typically maintained by intentionally crashing your ship to temporarily lower it. With the absence of extends in the non-Japanese regions, the difficulty curve was heavily reduced (since there are otherwise insufficient lives available to control it), creating a significantly less intricate risk/reward system for good scoring.mahlemiut wrote:For Battle Garegga, DIP switches for extend settings vary. Details on the game's "rank" system can be read here http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=351

Concerning other ones, I will launch a vote saturday or sunday (too busy at work for the moment).

Re: Games who might deserve a split
Just thought of this one; Battle Bakraid has the same "boss rush" selection mode that Armed Police Batrider has. The latter has a split course for it already.
Re: Games who might deserve a split
Indiana Jones and Blasteroids have very different courses and difficulty.
Re: Games who might deserve a split
First of all thanks to MARPers for Phelios and Marvlanj
I'd like to see a special split for Mortal Kombat (at least for parent): Reptile can't appear in any way at first coin, because flying things over the moon in pit stage appear only every a certain amount of games.
I can't remember exactly, but I think first time is at third or fourth game, anyway: could we accept (for this title only) a special rule that allows people to record more than one game in the same inp, so that the first time that Reptile's appearance conditions rise it's the game to record for?
Please don't consider those turbo-hack clones where Reptile appears after every match (99,9millions), I'd like to see an appreciable 20+ millions inp on a decorous romset.

Re: Games who might deserve a split
I'm not very found of this idea.
I would prefer a special thread here with attached inp.
Could this be done with a "save state" ?
By the way, bbakraid + clones are split with -ob option (only boss).
And batrider + clones has been renamed -ob also
