Time Trials 2011 introduction

Re: Time Trials 2011 introduction
Well BBH, you do raise a valid point. Since many are in concurrence with said BBH, I'm pretty sure that, with some research I just did, I can just require WOLFMAME 104 and be done with it. I'll have to check and make sure of that though...

You're right. I had forgotten M+GUImahlemiut wrote:I say lack of GUI is no excuse, simply because there's always M+GUI or a multitude of other external GUIs that you can use. I am quite aware of how a command prompt frightens some people (especially Mac users).

Until now, we aren't too many players in the tournament. It would be good for the competition at least 30 or 40 players.
What can we do to attract more players to the Time Trials 2011?

I'm pretty sure that the final number of partecipants will be around 30/40.

Re: Time Trials 2011 introduction
After further review, it turns out that one game, due to graphics issues, will require WolfMAME 140. The rest are OK on WolfMAME 104. The 140 game is running at about 550% speed on my CPU... now, that's on a quad-core processor, but still, I think I like my chances.

Re: Time Trials 2011 introduction
why 0.104 instead of 0.106...?
Although I'd still prefer 0.99 just for minimal input lag and all

Re: Time Trials 2011 introduction
I think most people do have 0.106 already because of previous tournaments.

Re: Time Trials 2011 introduction
106... my bad!
I keep getting confused between 104 and 106. I'm sure 99 would be OK too. I'm easy to please.
I think four of the five games I selected could be played in WolfMAME 78, 99, 104, 106, 140, 1, or 1000000!
The fifth game, however, will have to be 140. (games alluded to obviously may not be played in that order
)

the same for Zid and for other playersBBH wrote: There's games I can't run full speed in 0.140
it'd be a pity some players can't play in a game because of wolf 140
GB9, think about picking up wolf140
Re: Time Trials 2011 introduction
Most of the major speed decreases are more due increasing the accuracy (like the addition of the TMS57002 to Konami GX, even though as I understand it, all it does is sound processing, and it isn't even fully hooked up yet, so watch out for when it does). There is always a trade off between accuracy and speed, and MAME's primary goal has always been accuracy. That being said, I can still run Neo Geo, CPS-1/2, CPS-3, and various others in 0.140 on my 6-year-old Windows PC. Even Dodonpachi Dai-ou-jou. (not techinally in 0.140, more a slightly modified version of 0.140u2...)
Anyway, it's not like gb9 is going to make us play Marvel vs. Capcom 2, right?
Right?

Re: Time Trials 2011 introduction
Oh no doubt that would stink if the one 140 game can't be played by all. But as I said before, I did get a 550% speed on that game, so even though that was on an AMD Phenom 9600 (quad-core), I still like my chances. I'll try the game out on my Athlon X2 4400(dual-core) though just to make sure. If it looks questionable, I'll replace it...Marco Marocco wrote:the same for Zid and for other playersBBH wrote: There's games I can't run full speed in 0.140

Re: Time Trials 2011 introduction
For 140, I'm fine with running games with like frameskip 5 to get full speed (-afs)
It makes me kind of seasick though. X_X

I suppose Gameboy9 has chosen a game that has been emulated in the latest versions, so unplayable in versions like 104 or 106. However, in despite of the recent emulation of some games that doesn´t involve a very powerful hardware to reach 100% speed. Maybe these are the reasons why Gameboy is proposing Wolf 0.140 for an unique game.
