Why was cyberball (2p) archived?

Post by Q. T. Quazar »

I can't find (or remember) any rationale for this. Can someone explain? It's a fully functional game with a computer opponent.

Maybe someone see "2 players" and immediatly archive it ?
I agree with you, Pat can unstar cyberbal2p, 2p1, 2p2, 2p3

What about the splits ?
"game breaker" and "regulation" are in the advanced section, but there is also a "rookie" section

I must add "rookie" only scores by points, "advanced" (both game breaker & regulation) scores by dollars won.
I would bend to score the -reg by $ like we did for example with aafb or hiimpact.

This for cyberbal2p clones.
For cyberbal and clones, same stuff : "instructional division" only scores by points, "pro division" also scores by dollars won.

I've uploaded 2 inputs on cyberbalt1-reg showing how scoring by points or dollars isn't the same.
Note that in-game hall of fame is by dollars.

What I would do is :
1- split first category (cyberbal, cyberbalp, cyberbal2) in -ins (instructional division, scored by points, or better points diff) and -pro (scored by dollars)
2- split second category (cyberbal2p, cyberbal2p1, cyberbal2p2, cyberbal2p3, cyberbalt, cyberbalt1) in -roo (rookie, scored by points, or better points diff) and -arg (advanced : regulation) & -agb (advanced : game breaker) both scored with dollars.
Of course this needs first to unstar cyberbal2p, cyberbal2p1, cyberbal2p2, cyberbal2p3

Pat, it's up to you

more to this still... i think by sports rules, these are actually supposed to be full games as well, now.

having looked at the dips, there is a service mode where you can set up a 'free play' option. there's also a lot of coin manipulation and multiplier stuff which i'm not too clear about.

the upshot of this is that this game can easily be set up to play full games, without having to 'coin up' (which, segue, i still find distasteful at MARP)

as for the three splits, i'm not sure. i thought regulation was points--i know Game Breakers was cash. not sure why cash over points for REG, Phil. is it because that seems to be the high score table?

either way, i suppose we also will need to decide how long you can 'keep playing'--one game, or continuous (since free play mode is available)

i don't think we need to split into a 'rookie mode'--i think this is just a mode that either gives you instructions on gameplay, or is the 'basic' two teams from the parent set (the top two are listed for rookie players, you'll notice). not all Cyberball sets have the same info in the same places--some, like the parent, seem to be missing the Game Breakers feature

Isn't full game here a bit long ?
And what do you do with the incredible input by Rixtr (scored 32 pts in 3 minutes!!) ?

yes only game of "second category", as I called, have it

For splits, it needs more play and more reflexion, but I leave again tomorrow morning (holidays part 2).
So see you in August

there's no rush. bonnes vacances :)

i would say put the length to a vote, but i don't think there are many sports game players left at MARP, so i'm not sure it would be much of a vote. i don't mind playing single game or 3mins--i just figured single game would bring it in line with the other sports games.

agreed, rixtr's .inp is excellent.

For now, here's what I've done...

• all archived INPs recorded since m35b13 were moved under cyberbal2p3
• there was nothing found archived under other "2p" versions (as of m77)

In summary, we now have:

cyberbal2p-gmb "Cyberball 2072 (2 player, rev 4) [Game Breakers]"
cyberbal2p-reg "Cyberball 2072 (2 player, rev 4) [Regulation]"
cyberbal2p1-gmb "Cyberball 2072 (2 player, rev 1) [Game Breakers]"
cyberbal2p1-reg "Cyberball 2072 (2 player, rev 1) [Regulation]"
cyberbal2p2-gmb "Cyberball 2072 (2 player, rev 2) [Game Breakers]"
cyberbal2p2-reg "Cyberball 2072 (2 player, rev 2) [Regulation]"
cyberbal2p3-gmb "Cyberball 2072 (2 player, rev 3) [Game Breakers]"
cyberbal2p3-reg "Cyberball 2072 (2 player, rev 3) [Regulation]"
