mgcrystl - inps to move

Post by sawys »

http://marp.retrogames.com/r/mgcrystl

Hi :-)

If i'm correct, i noticed that some of the inps recorded are not in the good place because of renaming rom.

Inps recorded between 0.59 and 0.103 (include) must be moved to mgcrysto.
Inps recorded before 0.59 must be moved to mgcrystj

Ref :
0.103u2: Uncle Tom added Magical Crystals (World, 92/01/10). Renamed (mgcrystl) to (mgcrysto).
0.59: Brian Troha added Magical Crystals (World). Renamed (mgcrystl) to (mgcrystj).

Cheers

I'm not sure about this. 0.59 came out over 6 years ago and there have been a lot of recordings made since then.

This is the first mention of an error, so obviously it is not related to gameplay. Could be text changes such as release dates.

Also, how can we prove or disprove that I have already moved recordings. That is an interesting question!!

Point is: I do not track all the swaps either for games or INPs, so it is hard for me to tell if we've already fixed the problem!!

viewtopic.php?p=44484#p44484 -- from over a year ago. Can't remember if it was done then or not, however.

Right now mgcrysto has no INPs. If I make the changes as requested, we'll be left with a whopping 2 unconfirmed INPs for the parent mgcrystl.

Is this what you guys really want?

I can do it but is doesn't make sense that within 5 or 6 years, an original romset gets swapped out for a clone (twice!!).

There are differing gameplay aspects between the Japanese and World versions (and it's not even a Konami game... ;)) No way should those ever be mixed.

Basically, anything recorded with 0.58 or earlier should be in mgcrystj, there was no other choice at the time.
mgcrystl should only contain INPs recorded with 0.104 or later. This set did not exist before then.
Others will probably have to be checked, but as the title clearly states which version is which, it shouldn't be difficult to figure out.

This also raises an interesting point.

If people can submit records for older MAME versions (and they can). They what is stopping someone from submitting a mgcrystl recording from WolfMAME 0.83 using the older romset? They would submit it under mgcrystl - even though it should be moved to mgcrysto!

Do we need rules handle how people submit inps for older versions - where the sets have been rearranged?

Note: In the above case, I don't think the mgcrystl recordings were submitted after the move - but they could have been.

In that case, I'd hope that someone would actually notice that the long names don't match up.

Each time I find such a case, I edit special rules, like I did for "powerbal" for example.
Now it's done for the more recent mgcrystl too.
Up to Pat to move all recordings
-made with previous than m59 to mgcrystj
-made with m59 to m103 to mgcrysto

All recordings should now be in their proper locations.
