scoring on Virtua Racing

Post by DGO »

Hi,

Can someone please explain the rules on scoring ?

http://marp.retrogames.com/r/vr

For instance... there's no points in the game.. just time...
there's three tracks, will there be three entries on Marp?

Kind regards,

Pepijn

Haven't looked into this game much, but i'm assuming if there are three tracks (with 3 scoreboards in the game for time) then this should be split into three -clones.

if think i did :
number of finished laps * 1,000,000 - total time in milliseconds

and there are three courses, so it might need a split...

Yes, that would be a good solution. I've made recordings for the other two tracks, I'll wait for that to upload them. This is an excellent race game to compete on. Wonder if you could make it play head to head on two systems :)

Hmm.. I guess we'll be playing vr offline for quite some time

Which by the way is far more than I hoped for for quite some years so I'm happy :)

When will the clones be added? I'd like to see some competition going on the other tracks and upload my recordings. Cheers!

might have to bump ***PL*** to request the split to be added, It seems wgp2 might need to be racing track split as well.

Split wgp2...

wgp2-au "World Grand Prix 2 (Japan) [Australia]"
wgp2-de "World Grand Prix 2 (Japan) [Germany]"
wgp2-jp "World Grand Prix 2 (Japan) [Japan]"
wgp2-us "World Grand Prix 2 (Japan) [United States]"

Someone should alert MAMEDEV that "wgp2" is NOT a clone of "wgp"!!

batrider was already split creating a special course, but I am considering backing it out after WCC is over. bbakraid and bbakradu, have not been split for a couple of reasons. Unlike batrider, these two games do not have a dip switch setting for Special Course. BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, Special Course is really a power up sequence which IMO does not warrant a split. Otherwise a whole bunch of games would now need to be split. As an example, some Bubble Bobble recordings have used power ups and these should be DQed. Is it OK that the clone has a 1st place score using power ups? My take on this is that there are too many games with hidden sequences or easter eggs, use of which provides an advantage beyond regular game play and thus should be considered cheating.

I will also post this in the batrider/bakraid/bbakradu split thread.

Hi,

i've read the posts about Virtua racing but there is still one thing i didn't understand : are we supposed to take the time on the "GOAL" screen, or at the "Hall of fame" screen in order to calculate the score ? the hof time is always slightly superior to the goal time (why??).

Score in HOF is slightly higher because game probably keeps in memory the remanent milliseconds for the final total.
Use this one, it's easier and more logic (we did the same in another racing game which has the same stuff : f1gpstar).
Special rules edited to avoid any future confusion.

Thanks a lot Phil !

I forgot to mention that the "special rule" was missing, that's perfect now, and i can submit without making mistakes...

I guess you're right : the milliseconds of each lap are added after the "GOAL".
