Has anyone heard of MR. DRILLER?

Post by Robert Griffin »

Can anyone provide some basic high-score info for MR. DRILLER? (MAME, Arcade, etc.)

I have a friend who says he is good at the game, and wants to know what the high-scores are, as well as have some competition on the game.

I would do this myself but I have no home internet access, and virtually all sites are blocked at work.

Thanks Tommi :D

Sorry to take up forum space for a basic question, but like I said, my internet access is slim to none

Feel free to delete this thread as you see fit.

Thanks,

Mr. Driller awards bonuses that can only be obtained by finishing the course. The basics behind these bonuses (these values might be off depending on the game, I'm mostly familiar with Mr. Driller 2 but these should give you the gist of it):

Remaining lives - x * 30000
Perfect Air Bonus - 50000
Time Bonus - too hard to figure out

Perfect Air Bonus is fairly important, which means you have to pick up every air packet in the course. The air packets are also a huge source of score, since each one is worth 100 points more than the last air packet.

Time Bonus usually isn't that large, all I know is that to get any Time Bonus at all you need to complete the course in a certain amount of time - under 5 minutes for 500M course, under 10 minutes for 1000M, etc.

There is one more huge source of score, and that is to "attain the rank of Mr. Driller". I'm not sure how this rank is awarded, but it sometimes occurs after the bonus tally if you had a really good game. It's worth a whopping 200,000 points (on the 500M course at least, might be more on other courses). The best way to get it seems to be to clear the course without losing any lives, but I have gotten this rank once on Mr. Driller 2 after losing one life, but I also had a pretty fast time... maybe it's reliant on a combination of factors, i.e. if you get through very fast you're allowed to die once. I'm not really sure.

Ok, so Robert's friend ended up being the one that beat my 500M score at Ground Kontrol anyway. You're a beast, MAT.

So I should take this opportunity to correct myself regarding the bonus Mr. Driller badge - to attain Mr. Driller status you have to finish the course with Perfect Air, and you're allowed to die only once (assuming it's on settings where only one extra life is awarded). Also, the Mr. Driller badge is worth 200k on 500M, 300k on 1000M, and most likely 400k on 2000M.

But anyways... GEMANT, if you're reading this, could you share the Mr. Driller and Mr. Driller 2 Gamest records with us?
