Swedish ESC entry(doubleclick video to enlarge):
http://www.yle.fi/eurovision/mediaplayer.php?id=2813

Sounds familiar?

Without going into appearence of the artist and stereotyping swedes more, one could claim they are not actively trying to get rid of the stereotyped image.

Anyways, it truly bothered me what song was that plagiarized from. It was lingering but just couldn't remember lyrics or band:

Listened to some of the top favourites of Eurovision Song Contest(10 and 12.5). You can listen and watch them here(doubleclick for big screen):
http://www.yle.fi/eurovision/main.php?id=2776

My comments on favourites(odddschecker.com):

Serbia - Usual, solid ESC stuff
Sweden - ABBA goes Bay City Rollers, crap...but a top contender
Switzerland - DJ Bobo, I think this will win. Vampires, cool! ;)
Belarus - bull, fancy video. Is this a rock or boy band? homos.
Bulgaria - Eardrums. Don't know what to think of this, different.
Russia - From England with love, why not sing in Russian, Spicegirls. Bleh.
Ukraine - That's funny, not. Transvestites, again...
Greece - This sounds like...Enrico Iglesias. Uh.
Cyprus - 13 in a dozen.
Romania - Tiny little song with usual ESC internationality theme.
Israel - Drop the bomb there, now. Is Israel an European country?
UK - Speechless

Couple others:
Moldova - Ummm, pretty...
Iceland - ROCK'n'ROLL! 66/1 great odds. Should I bet my money on this?
Ireland - Good one, very Irish. A little too "ordinary" song?
Denmark - Not totally awful, but another drag queen, how about King Diamond...

Yes of course they are. Just like they compete in the European Football Championships. I always thought they were a Middle Eastern 'country', surrounded by other European countries such as Iraq, Iran, Syria etc.

And the title of that song... 'Drop the Bomb There Now'? What bomb? The Nuclear bombs that Israel 'don't have'? And as for "There"? Iran?

Nil points from me.

The name of the song is actually "Push the Button". But your interpretation is spot on: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/6405457.stm

That's like so not PC to bring stinky Middle East politics to ESC. Dare I say: un-European.

EDIT: Israel didn't even get to the finals. Next year Palestine is taking part in Eurovision Song Contest, as a new member. No kidding.

ESC

ESC Winner was Serbia.

Generally speaking Eastern European countries did well, thanks to usual neighbour voting...well...thanks to Sweden and Iceland for 12 points, from me as a representative of Finland. :)

Al, I thought Irish song was good - a lot better than Ukrainian act for sure.

Yeah the block voting is getting out of hand. Honestly.

The Irish entry wasn't great IMO, but didn't deserve last place. I thought that was being kept for 'Scooch', the UK entry. Cringe!

All the same, a good spectacle and a great ice hockey stadium.
The presenters did a good job, but for the life of me....what was going on with that gimp in the pink dress eh? Shotgun time.

Roll on next year.

Oh, and another thing. I don't agree with countries who haven't qualified for the finals actually voting in the final. 42 countries?

Palestine next year? Uh, ok. Do they have to 'recognise' Israels right to compete next year or something? Oh well, at least Palestine might give us a few votes....

That gal was Krisse Salminen, a Finnish "comedienne" who has own talk TV show here. She plays an act of naive blond bimbo having somekind of princess complex. Not sure if it is an act tho. I thought that people outside Finland might not find her so amusing as some Finns apparently do...
Not to mention awful "postcards from Finland" series. Winter, skiing and other "exotic" stereotypes all over again. Santa Claus, oh dear...
Then of course lots of cell phones, which was quite accurate from the land of Nokia.

Yeah, I thought arrangements looked good too.

Obviously someone was joking there. It means nothing like that. Humppa is an old Finnish form of folkmusic. Eläkeläiset are playing a modernized version of it. They are playing covers of old classics in their own style (with funny lyrics). For some strange reason they are insanely popular in Germany.

Here they are playing Bon Jovi's Livin on a Prayer.

Hehheh, nice music. I didn't even know they made punk in Estonia.
That Klamydia song is a classic...wonderful lyrics, though "Kemppainen" has even better...
