Dammit, I can't even get the first boost with the falcon. How are you guys quickly vibrating to the side to hit the other vehicle off the starting line?

Edit: Ok I found it, hold down the horn button.
Is it just me or does anyone else dislike games that have silly things like this hidden in them?
No, me too.

This game, on the other hand, has a lot of interesting aspects to it. The choices of vehicles and routes and the advantages/disadvantages of their combinations could be the subject of considerable study.

Anybody messed around with this shortcut toward the end of the 6th stage?

You go into the parking lot here:

and come out threading a hole in the fence here:

I hadn't seen any of the inps I've watched do this, and it seems like if it could be done smoothly it might result in a good savings, cutting through a lot of zigzagging streets.

I think (for myself, anyway) that it's way too hard to enter and exit consistently without crashing or slowing down so I decided to forget about it. I'm not sure how much (if any) time it would cut off.

DBH: I'm not sure if the programmers thought about it before hand (the ability to get a boost from doing that), but in any event, you should try out everything you can possibly think of with every game you play. It wasn't like it was hard to figure out, I figured it out on my own the second day I played it.

somehow I don't think my world record is going to last very long. Good job destructor. ;)

and yeah, I dunno about that Stage 6 shortcut either. I probably wouldn't want to try to take it at full speed, I'd most likely end up slowing down to get in there, and slowing down isn't a good thing of course. And since it's stage 6, I'd hate to get that far and then bump into the wall and screw up an otherwise [relatively] perfect run. Maybe I'll try it out later though...

it is a somewhat odd trick that I didn't anticipate being a huge factor in the game, but of course it's still possible to get a very respectable time without it. It's just that for the fastest time possible, the boost has to be done.

Remember that you can always playback an inp with -iv 1 to see the inputs that the player makes.

and ZB, you're still uploading uncompressed zip files. Please fix this on future uploads, I'm not going to ask you to do this again.

Huh, hadn't noticed that shortcut. I think it's pointless though. The entrance is way too tight and since you're going more or less diagonally in the normal course, that might even make the shortcut longer.

so much for me trying to steal anyone's thunder. :D Congratulations on the new world record!

(and how mad were you when you scraped that wall on the last stage? hehe)

edit: damn, good job to you too JYD! I guess I'll go for a faster time myself once this round is over. :)

That sucks. It's Wednesday and I'm supposed to start learning the trick and falcon. Please no games with selectable characters, powerups and stuff like that...Who will have the best results will depend on your character choice, not only your playing skill.
Pole Position beats this game hands down.
Remember that you can always playback an inp with -iv 1 to see the inputs that the player makes.
-playback overtop -iv 1 Doesn't work for me, atleast at wolf 101. Is inpview supposed to be internal wolfie feature or external prog? ...I forgot.
Could you verbally let us in to the RB(ridiculous boost) -trick? I crash to a car and hold gas(but1) + horn(but3) but nothing happens.
Does button 4 do anything?

On start hold buttons A and C and LEFT direction. You must wipe off vehicle on your left side. It's work as set match to fire.

Next tips. If you hold C button you can't turn. You can move and precisely place your vehicle on route using this tips.

About second boost. You must use trick as on start, but remember that your speed should be lower than enemy vehicle speed.

You can made boost on:
- motorbike
- plot
- 'water car'
Motorbike is the best for it. After second boost your speed can be 500km/h. Beware on turn, don't hold A (gas) button :D

I saw this technique is sikraiken inp (-inpview) and next learn in 3-4 games.

Shoulda started playing on Friday. You're expecting to learn a game in a day? Good luck.

-iv should work for any version from 0.84 to 0.106, except 0.100 (and maybe 0.101, if I didn't fix it by then), and future versions (from 0.109) will include it too.

Look, I'm sorry but we didn't know about the boost trick when we were testing the game out. How were we to predict the future and know that it would end up playing such a crucial role to the fastest possible time? It's not like the time you've spent playing the game up to this point has been a complete waste of time, as it's helped you to learn the dynamics of the game and where everything is on the course, right?

I don't really care if you like Pole Position better. Go start your own tournament and use Pole Position as one of the games then. There's pretty much never going to be any games that EVERYONE loves, so deal with it.

-iv 1 works just fine here, in some versions of MAME it was also called "-inpview" I think. I'm referring of course to the commandline version though, I never use the GUI.

The boost is just like it's been said before, hold down gas + horn and slide over into the vehicle on the left. If the top half of your vehicle overlaps the bottom half of the CPU vehicle (or thereabouts), the boost kicks in. It does not work on all CPU vehicles from the starting line though, since some can accelerate out of the way before you can collide with them.

As far as I know the "lights" button doesn't do a thing.
