Under Fire question: Gun & Mouse combo?

Post by Malibu »

Considering the Act-Labs gun doesn't do machinegun fire, would it be acceptable to use a gun & mouse combo? With the Full Fire item, one press of the gun trigger could be used to aim the first shot- then the left mouse button could be held after that to maintain fire with the mouse being moved to track the target (esp. for bosses). I'm thinking this would likely be OK as far as Rule 2c is concerned, but I'd like to be 100% certain. Thanks.

I don't quite understand the question...

Are you talking about reloading gun, pointing mouse off screen(doing reloading automatic) and simultaniously pointing the lightgun somewhere on screen? -How would that be possible, you can't have 2 cursors different locations same time? I can NOT use analog joystick +mouse to do this. Is lightgun different?
Don't you think you should have small pause while reloading...Which is a feature of the game that makes it more difficult. If you don't have to point off screen to reaload, you get unfair advantage compared to original game and other marpers too.
Or does the game have an option to map a button to do whole off-screen-push-button reload function? I didn't find such.

Autofire?
What you mean your gun doesn't have machinegun fire?
You can not use autofire of external devices at marp.
If we would allow autofire, the player with best autofire equipment would win, not good. Don't pity your finger, just fire away.

Nice score at Thndrbdj btw ;)

Thanks, TJT. :)

On an arcade version of Under Fire, you press the trigger once to shoot in a burst of three bullets unless you have a Full Fire (machine gun) power-up. With the FF item, the gun can be used Operation Wolf style.

With regards to machine gun fire: The Act-Labs gun has a major limitation here- its trigger can do clicks, but not hold-downs. Hold-downs on the arcade versions of Operation Wolf, Under Fire (with the Full Fire item), and Space Gun give machine gun fire, while they doesn't work on an AL gun. This explains why I dodge the Full Fire items playing in MAME.

I do understand why an RMB reload wouldn't be fair though- since you wouldn't be pointing the gun offscreen. However, when I point offscreen and pull the trigger for a reload : Immediately following the reload, the Act-Labs gun fires once again in the spot where the last shot was taken. :( If a bystander happens to be crossing that spot, they get it.

Ah, ok...

Yes, it's ok to use gun trigger for other weapons and mouse button for machine gun...and mouse button for reload. You are not getting unfair firing speed or other unfair advantage compared to arcade.
I don't know what to say about reload thingy, still didn't quite understand how you would reload without pointing gun out of the screen.
Confirmed your recording, looks ok to me.

I recommend you also give a try at Hogan's Alley(and Duck Hunt), a very basic and very fun game...No bikers there, just plain old villains and robbers... but aren't bikers just...uh...never mind

There's one game I used to be good at awhile ago- Hogan's Alley. The bonus round with the cans is quite fun when you try to get them to land on the 2000 ledge. I was checking it out a few weeks ago in MAME and the Act-Labs gun is perfect there. Will give it a go soon and hopefully get a good score.

In Under Fire- those bikers are actually harder than the final boss, I think. IIRC you need to hit the leader at least once in each go-round before he fires.
