Firefox ROCKS!

Somewhere for the annoying and/or off-topic threads to go. Feel free to post about whatever, but abuse will still be dealt with, and possibly with more force. Especially pac-porno. ;)

Firefox ROCKS!

Post by Weehawk »

Just found out something I can do in Firefox and thought I'd share.

You know how some sites don't allow direct linking like:

http://marp.retrogames.com/inp/6/c/2/zo ... wolf98.zip

http://db.gamefaqs.com/coinop/arcade/file/tempest.txt

Try clicking on those...doesn't worK?

Of course you could copy and paste the text to your address bar...

or

If you're using Firefox: type "about:config" in the address bar and hit enter

Scroll down to "network. http. sendRefererHeader" and double-click on it.

Change the 2 to a 0.

This should be the default anyway. It's nobody's fucking business where I came from.

Anyway, it keeps the destination site from knowing whether I clicked on a link somewhere else or just typed the URL in and entered. Now I can just click on the links and they work!

While that does work on some sites, some sites catch it. I tried clicking on a download link on a website, and it said that I'm either trying to download the file from another site or my browser didn't pass the referrer string to the server.

Me 2, that must be the reason why I missed the l33tn3z of this trick

More browser hijinks.

http://www.lloydporn.com/FirefoxSUX/index.html

BTW, it's not really a porn site and I see no reason anyone would want to visit it anyway but...

Tired of scumbag webmasters who won't let you browse their site if you're not using a browser they can use to fuck up your computer?

Tired of that little know-it-all in Barry's sig knowing what browser/OS you're using?

Don't think it's anybody's business what software you use and resent your browser giving away this information without your approval?

Type "about:config" in the URL box and hit enter.

Right click to bring the popup menu and click "new"

Type "general.useragent.override" in the "preference name" box.

Type whatever you please in the "string" box.

If you have any problem with sites that don't like unrecognized browsers, you can choose from a huge list of real UserAgent strings here:

http://www.pgts.com.au/pgtsj/pgtsj0208c.html

You can choose to identify yourself as using whatever browser/OS you like.
