Marp Clowns?

Post by Haze »

can somebody tell me the point? looks to me like people just trying to steal points on a game nobody is going to want to play because *it doesn't actually work*

bad scores in games are one thing, but this is just stupid and a complete waste of time & space on MARP.

Might be for LB points some cases.

I submitted at couple not fully working titles(but playable), so that I get email when they start working(someone submits better score). My intention is of course keep those first places after they work too.

I was wondering if Lock On was playable because of submission, guess not then. My intention is to take first at Lock On, when it's playable...Meanwhile I might "loan" "my" points for German :D

I guess normal procedure has been not to give lb points for games that are not playable at all. Pat knows better. I trust you guys fix the game soon though, straight after Turbo Sub (hint, hint, hint...);) :)

Don't look now, but German submitted a Dodonpachi II score... I wonder if he noticed that enemies don't shoot at you... :)

EDIT: Question to German: How do you justify playing a game competitively when it looks like this?

ehh? Only first place scores matter.

...so he is cheating out a single first place "score".

Yes, but it's disabled.

More and more, I feel the best way to go is no leaderboard at all. But I also feel that no matter what happens with the leaderboard, this sort of thing will still happen.

Only because we allow it. Why keep non-working games in the MARP database? As long as we do then yes of course, people will submit any old rubbish.

Ease of use. It's enough that there are splits and archived games to manage. It takes way too long as it is to un-archive games once they're working. Only Pat and Zwaxy can do that, and I doubt either of them (or anyone at all, for that matter) looks through every single MAME game after each release to see which work and which don't.

Right.

Submissions on clearly non working games could be deleted by editors though. The hard part would be to say where you draw the line of game being playable or not.

add Gunblade NY to the list of broken games.... you get a score of 43741 for doing absolutely nothing. *rolls eyes*

Not that I am aware of... but Zwaxy would know more on that side of things. Of course, archiving the games will exclude them from being counted on the leaderboard... whether or not that would stop it is debatable.

Of course, the only way we'd even realise that most of these don't work right is from someone uploading this crap...
