PRE POLL discussion: Mame versions allowed at marp, no u's
Moderator: BBH
yes, and that is exactly why I replied...cuz all of the recent official MacMAME versions are all "u" versions. The TJT wrote:This discussion is mainly about allowing, or not allowing use of unofficial "u" -update mame versions.
I haven't seen a version without a "u" for a very long time....maybe have to go back to 0.60 or 0.66 in MacMAME to have no "u".
I agree on the PC side though if they have for example 0.77u1, 0.77u2, 0.77u2a then 0.77 that only 0.77 be accepted...none of those other earlier builds of 0.77 etc.

With the m94u1, that is a weekly or twice-weekly release. VERY DIFFERENT!!
Pretty soon we'll see mame 0.99.01 u1
If you quote the whole text you'll see this:
I agree that the releases are fast, but I still don't see any reason for only using "official" versions.I have to admit that there are a lot of U's before the official builds, but that is not any different than the old system with 37b3, 37b4 etc. We all admited these versions (even if they were not released this fast!!)

No, I don't want to use themThe TJT wrote:But why would you want to use them Des?destructor wrote:If is possible to use other MAME clones (ex. EKMAME, MAMEPLUS,...) then why don't use U versions?

For me U version can be disallowed, but this have no sense to delete excellent scores made in U versions.
Maybe I'm wrong?
Well, I tried googling for u -versions...and I didn't find them.
I'm only trying to make playback more easy for us.
We don't delete old recordings using u's. If someone submits at marp using one, that gets zeroed, and you can still watch it, if you find the exotic version that was used. (think about mameanalog 91u1 etc...)
I was thinking about a new rule as:
First line is to write something that already is a custom at marp. So I think that could be written in the rules no matter what the poll outcome is.
U- part is the actual stuff we are voting on. To make playback easier. +you shouldn't use u's anyway, but wait for wolfmame release.

Does it make sense? My choose of words sucks, I know...

Code: Select all
3a. Use of Wolf- or TGMAME is preferred.
MAME u, -update versions are not allowed if your operating system has more official versions available.

For the latest builds of official and unofficial Mame versions:
http://redump.emubase.de/mame.php
Great place with fast updates.
And of course:
http://www.classicgaming.com/mame32qa/
for the mame gui version only
Also very fast with updates after a release.
I always go to these places for a new mame version.

Thx, couldn't find older u's there. I do admit being enough "warez kiddy" though to sometimes "test" latest unofficial releases.
Also for mame32 older builds:
