MAME -> TV Out -> 16:9 TV

Post by emphatic »

Hi,

I want to play MAME games on my television set, but as it is a wide screen, it looks kinda stupid playing games like Flying Shark in 4:3 mode with all that screen wasted. And don't get me started on stretching it all out to 16:9.

First of all, I do care about how the original is supposed to look and all, but I want to use more of my TV when playing, 'cause otherwise I would use my 19" monitor instead.

I have spent a couple of hours now, trying to configure AdvanceMame, Mame32 and now finally "regular" mame with EmuLoader, but no luck. What I'm trying to achieve is stretching the picture horizontally about 50% for each side so I get a compromise over 4:3 and 16:9.

I wonder if anyone here has the same setup and has come to any conclusion on how to make the best of it?

I could really need some help here.

What you need is (in advmame.rc):

display_expand 1.5

More info here:

Big thanks. This only works in AdvanceMame, right? Because I really like to play in full screen and I don't know how to get that in AdvanceMame. Is there an option for that too, or am I stuck with windowed mode?

Never mind. I found a better solution (for me anyway).

I run Mame32 in windowed mode without "Enforce aspect ratio" and simply drag the edges to the shape I want. Excellent. 8)

Sure, just use:

device_video_output fullscreen

But for further discussion use the official mailing list or forum, as AdvanceMAME seems (sadly) not to be welcome here.

You can tick 'stretch using hardware', set 'clean stretch' none then fiddle about with the aspect ratio. Darius is nice playing in full screen, even your wide screen isn't wide enough for that!
