The current official build of macmame is a project for CW and XCode. I think the released build was built using CW so isn't 64 bit. There is also the xcode build...which some have built on their own...which I think has the project options to be built as 64 bit.mahlemiut wrote:Using XCode, right? Based around GCC if I remember right, so that's perfectly possible.
I have not read anything yet as to actual performance differences seen with the xcode build vs the CW build. I think the CW build is still faster because of the assembly optimizations etc. which all aren't rewritten for use with xcode with the gcc compiler...although the latest xcode update is supposed to support all of the CWPro assembly.
I can't try an XCode build ymself yet cuz I am still using Jaguar. XCode only works with Panther....thus my wanting a new mac...that would come with Panther. I can theoretically install Panther on this mac but want to have a new complete backup and not need my mac for a few days so I can reformat and install Panther and software all fresh. If all went well that would be cool.
I also wonder if I even have the HD space that Panther likely will require. My Jaguar bootup HD is only 4.5 gig.
Also with the 64 bit stuff I would want a G5...for other obvious performance reasons also.
My Mac is so so slow nowadays.
