I have an idea of how to score this.
Time at the end of each stage (after killing the boss, ignore stages where the player leaves before doing so)
Lives x 1000 but only if you finish the game (maximum 3000; I couldn't find any 1-ups, and the timer resets when you die)

Example:
Stage 1: 812
Stage 2: 810
Stage 3: 791 (left before finishing)
Stage 4: 760
Stage 5: 729
Stage 6: 703 (left before finishing)
Stage 7: 799
Only one life remaining at the end of the game.
