Gary, Is the order of levels allways the same at every different Gauntlet clone???
At G2, order is allways same, except if you use nvram...Or if you warp from 1 to 6, you get different set of levels(but same every clone)
I do know what you mean that monster generators get very fast... At G2 after about 400k some generators generate ghosts so fiercely, that it's not possible to destroy a generator without getting hit! ...With Elf not even with extra shot speed and power!
How did Gauntlet emulation get these features from G2...

The problem is that Raiden recordings don't playback fine in recent versions, at least for me.
That's why my last submission was recorded with AdvanceMAME... (apart from the fact that I prefer playing in my arcade cabinet instead of the keyboard!)
Seriously, if you have playback issues with any game, try advmame with the option "sync_resample internal". It makes the audio/video synchronization to be handled by advmame instead of the mame core.
From the docs:

From the docs:
---- 8.12.5 sync_resample ----
Select the audio resampling mode.
sync_resample auto | emulation | internal
Options:
auto - Select automatically, at present it's always
the `emulation' mode (default).
emulation - Change the emulation to produce the requested
number of samples instead of resampling.
internal - Internally resample the sound to match the
current speed.
Note that the `emulation' mode may result in wrong input recording
using the `-record' or `-playback' command line option due incorrect
behaviour of the emulation. Specifically some implementations may
depend on the number of sample requested, information which is not
stored in the recorded input file.
Re: About Gauntlet, not Raiden at all....
Haha, I see Rick is making assumptions again. Robotron doesn't have any DIP switches. The game controls the settings. The TJT wrote:Barry, here's the Robotron thread at TG:

Anyway, back to the point. All I can suggest is maybe there is some subtle timing error somewhere either in CPU emulation or the general hardware emulation.

Some clones are more stingy with the food but that starts right from level one, these clones also get harder as you score more points, ie. the generators become more active.
OOPS! reading your post more carefully, I realise you actually said that
some clones DO NOT decrease food, but start giving less food right from start.
Also you said these "stingy" clones get more difficult(generators get more active)due more score.
Actually this is behaviour my friend JST was referring to. All games he played at arcade did give full food, and DID NOT get more difficult with score.lordgaz wrote: Strangley, the clones that give full food don't get any harder at all maybe apart from the thief coming out quicker.
...He propably played MAME with romset "gauntlet.zip"-which is one of those "stingy" clones, according to marp top score.
So conclusion is that maybe emulation is ok with Gauntlet after all. Maybe those stingy roms were not so common, and that's why JST or GIL did not play them at arcades.
Thanks, Tommi
I'm sure this is something just added somewhere along the long line of revisions made to the game.
The higher the revision number, the more recent, obviously. But this doesn't mean that more recent revisions are more common. Of all the Street Fighter II machines I've seen (not including hacks of course), they were all ETC 910214. Which is only about the second revision made.

If its as in Gauntlet, the 7th (or 8th, I don't remember exactly) stage is the one where the former player lost. So, if you don't use nvram, you'll have always the same levels. The TJT wrote:At G2, order is allways same, except if you use nvram...Or if you warp from 1 to 6, you get different set of levels(but same every clone).

Re: About Gauntlet, not Raiden at all....
Just want to add on to this. I played Robotron a little on difficulty level 1 on MAME, and the Enforcers and Tanks STILL seem to be released faster than they do on any arcade machine I've played. I'm still not sure why this continues to happen in MAME but it is, IMO, the toughest thing to get around if you're going for marathons. It makes the higher waves much harder. The TJT wrote:Barry, here's the Robotron thread at TG:

Regarding the current recordings for CPS1 games and other games with default settings that have changed... they should probably be removed, but not deleted forever. Move the recordings somewhere else perhaps (or at least save the URL's of each recording, and then put them all in a post here or something so they can still easily be found)

GUYS STOP ALL!!!!
Raiden has that slowdowns on arcade. Like Renegade and Chelnov. Destructor is 100% sure! Something wrong has happened on these newest versions of MAME.
Here in Brasilia, there´s a RAIDEN arcade and I´m telling the truth. That slowdowns exists on the real machine. Where´s Hisa to discuss too?

Long life to good games
Hi!
Many games have slowdowns at arcade, if there is too much action for cpu to handle. Like Joust at some levels.
If emulation is correct these games have those same slowdowns at mame too...But only at those places where should be, not during entire game.
I'm not sure about Raiden, not played it at arcade in a looooong time. I think that emulation was sloooooow at older mame versions, not same I remember at arcade, then again I never played those 90's games much.
