I also wonder about that. I think you must hit the eye of the big fireball at the top of the screen a number of times. I've managed to hit it twice (the eye changes for a little while when you hit it). My guess is that you must hit it 3 times, more than that is impossible in that short time you get.

I wonder is the phase 3 emulated correctly... Can it really be so damn hard on the real machine?

I wish the hell I can find that damn rom!
So many bullshit sites out there !
I played the game QUASAR 20+ years ago...
As I remember , You hit the center of the quasar an X amount of times , all the while travelling closer to the center DANGER!
If sucessful you destroy the enemy and descend to original position at the bottom of the screen and go to level 2.
