Space Duel

Given for many games I am already using a fairly high frameskip...frameskip 6 for gauntlet and frameskip 8 for Blasteroids, I can't really sacrifice performance even more by using the m68k c core.
Once you get above frameskip 8 control issues start to really interfere with the ability to play the game.
I'll have to perhaps test a few though cuz perhaps the differences for some game CPUs isn't much of a difference at all.

Evil Angela's inp does work on XP! Good score! I'll have to test out to see Tar's inp works on XP or W98. I'll have to test some inps working on WolfMame with or without M68k C Core or Pre 63 timing bug switch or otherwise I'll have to stick out the older version (M35tg3 or M36 final). I might have to re-record on TG setting which I prefer a little harder setting than default setting.
Here is Space Duel tips if you guys want to rack up more than 200k.
Space Duel Hints and Tips: (No particular order)
1. Build up your reserves ships early like 4-5 to perserve for the harder levels to come.
2. Use shield wisely. It better than running out of shield than using nothing.
3. Try to rack up 10k or more per ship.
4. Don't even try to kill the falling blue star, it will make it harder.
It's ok to try slow down the falling blue star.
5. Don't stay in the center screen too long, due the falling blue star and flying saucer will kill you, easily.
6. Don't even try to lose your ships during bonus rounds, cause those points are very important than later levels.
7. The last thing I could think of is to destroy many objects as soon as possible. It's not worth saving one object and do saucer killing aka Asteroid.
There you go and you may even rack up at least 200-300k per game.
IF you reach 400k or over, you're just plain lucky.

I was figuring out those tricks you list, Notman, in my 197k game. The bonus stage at the end is worth plenty of points I noticed, and during the level, the game just continues to throw more and more and faster and faster stuff at you. The longer you stay on a stage, the tougher it gets due to the mines and the ufos and such.
My plan just became clear out all the objects as fast as possible - and it worked a lot better than I expected. Trying to do saucer-hunting ala Asteroids is suicidal after the first few levels.
It really is amazing the amount of items flying around in later stages - and they just keep throwing more and more at you the longer you stay on a stage. By the time they're throwing two fast-moving fast and accurate shooting ufos at you, you're in trouble - they often get into a rhythm that makes it tough, at least for me, to find an opportunity to even let up on the shield and get a few shots off.
And my most common death always seemed to be due to the shields running out after a pinball session around the board into various objects, usually after being launched due to being hit by a fast-moving mine.

yeah, that would work...but for most games I would prefer to not play them versus play them without sound.tar wrote:record with no sound
For many games the sounds really help in timing and just knowing when an enemy comes out or events happen etc. which is faster than visually seeing it without any sound.
sounds usually help me unless none of the sounds are associated with special things i need to do.
evil's playsback fine tars still doesn't with all my arsenal xp/98/nom68k_c_core/wolf77.1vs2 etc. only difference is that tar's is recorded with the ASM core and evils is recorded with the C core, that would suggest evil recorded with wolf77.2 and tar recorded with wolf77.1 but i've playedback evils and tars with both and i still can't get tars' to playback, gawd i hope this isn't another 63 issue.

Tar's inp work on W98/ ME
Desync on 35k on XP.
I think that is has to do with different proccessor's speed recording on certain OS. I guess that is pre-timing .63 bug, again.
Got 173k inp and it has RDSTC timing. It only work on XP and can't figure it out why it doesn't work on W98 or ME.
I guess that I'll have to try the older PC.

dial? asteroids didn't have no stinking dial! :) Space duel is one of my dream games, i used to have "good" night mares about this freakily lit and designed arcade (with tunnels and stuff) and this huge table top version of space duel with those spooky vector drawn objects bright as hell. love this game.

yeah, I sucked at asteroids also.Chad wrote:dial? asteroids didn't have no stinking dial!
I play similar games like Blasteroids that have a dial much better.
I think if I play Space Duel enough though I could get used to that type of control.
The biggest problem I'm having actually is properly pressing the shield and firing or moving at the same time. I think when doing 1 of the combos the shield key press doesn't work...cuz I can swear sometimes I have pressed down the shield key and yet nothing seems to happen.
I'll have to formally test for that....and perhaps adjust which keys I'm using so the combo of pressing 4 at the same time(fire, thrust, left/right and shield) all work.
Space Duel
left arrow = rotate left
right arrow = rotate right
down arrow = shield
Ins = thrust
Del = fire
Aztarac is 1983 centuri vector. Uses dial / analog ........highly difficult
In 1983 I was 14 years old
I owned a $300 Eliminator / Sega
it was a converted model
could see space fury on the screen
had it at grocery store were i worked.
destroyed in arson fire.

That's close to what I'm trying to use. I use the up-arrow for the shield...hehetar wrote:Space Duel

then cntrl key for firing and alt key for thrust.
INS and del keys seem awlfully odd keys to use for those commands. You would have your left hand reaching over to those.
..not as comfortable versus having 1 hand on each end of the keyboard.
