this rule is still unfair.

I don't have a grasp of this inquiry yet but here's some info: alphablocking is dead and gone, since someone posted a way to hack alphamame publicly. No more alphablocking will be done at marp until we have a more secure version wich will have to go through another voting process if it gets that far. And for the scores that were alphablocked, they will remain blocked because there was a vote for blocking at one time. We now rely on checking the inps for "signatures of un-arcade methods" manually with subjective input analysis tools.

Through what process was that decision made? Alphamame blocking became a standing rule when the 3/3/03 vote passed. According to the rules a 2/3 majority vote should have been required to change it. Otherwise it should still be enforced.

I, for one, would not vote to change it. I still feel there is value in the use of Alphamame even if someone somewhere has tools to get around it.

Barry decided to stop his work on alphamame (Due to that crackpot that hacked it..) , so this is his choice, not the publics choice (nor the editors)

I respect his opinion, and as there will be no more new alphamames there is no need for the blocking anymore.

Very unfortunate. I really think we should have an official, secure-as-possible version of mame to promote some degree of standardization.

yeah me too. the "most" secure mame is still alphamame, wolf mame isn't far behind and is gaining even with out encryption.
