-dama splits to be removed

Post by ***PL*** »

Because of inconsistencies between puzzle game splits, the following games will not be allowed to remain split at MARP. INPs will be moved to the archives and then permanently deleted after 7 days...

puzldama-sp -> *puzldama-sp "Taisen Puzzle-dama (Ver JAA) [Special]"
tbyahhoo-sp -> *tbyahhoo-sp "Twin Bee Yahhoo! (Ver JAA) [Special]"
tkmmpzdm-sp -> *tkmmpzdm-sp "Tokimeki Memorial Taisen Puzzle-dama (version JAB) [Special]"
tokkae-sp -> *tokkae-sp "Taisen Tokkae-dama (Ver JAA) [Special]"

Twinbee Yahhoo isn't a puzzle game, it's a shooter.

Also, with the puzzle-dama/tokkae-dama games, the special mode scores are far higher than normal mode, those should be the ones that remain. Unless you're trying to tell me that special recordings are now banned, that is.

What is the general rule??
must vote for each games?
I do not understand what one should be split and what is not.

1 Different Game.
exapmple:Dangan feavaron time attack,mouja taisen,puchicarat taisen....
all games split. I have no against opinion.

2 Different Course.(same rule. simply stage rayout are different)
SPLIT:rod-land,bubble bobble,pipe dream,camel try
No-SPLIT:puzzlebobble 2,3,4's another world.

3 Different Length(easier course has only 3 stages.real high scores are on more difficult mode)
SPLIT:nothing.(as long as I know)
No-SPLIT:puzzle bobble 2,3,4's vs,puyopuyo,phelios

4 Different Scoring system(harder mode has x2,x3 or x10 scoring system)
SPLIT:paper boy
No Split:marvel land japan twin bee yahhoo

tokkaedama and puzzledama should be split by rule 4 and not by rule 3.

yeah i agree a little on that paper boy point, although though you could see paper boy being split by rule 2 different course (different problems to encouter, different named street.)

My point is that there should be no splits based on a scoring system alone!!

For the -dama games that have a special mode split, we determined this is really Hard mode and doesn't warrant a split based on the higher scoring multipliers. Gameplay is very similar to the practice and normal modes.

And as Chad pointed out, we decided to split Paperboy based on the different courses, not the scoring.

So why are there all those pacman-fast splits? Surely the only difference is that it's easier?

Easier :?:

Have you tried playing -fast versions? You have to have lightning fast reflexes to make the turns as fast as possible. I find it just as challenging as the originals. :)

The main reason these splits have been allowed all along is because it is still a configurable menu option: "Turbo Cheat (Y/N)". Only will appear if cheats are enabled!

I'd call the speedup cheat easier. They are for me at least. Not that I play Pacman much. It's still nothing more than a difficulty change. I just don't get what the difference is here.

Yes but why they're splitted. They're not a different game, or Different Course, or Different Length or Different Scoring system ?

Pat, there seems to be some confusion in your earlier reply to Barry. You're right that we decided that Special Mode was essentially Hard Mode under a different name (and higher scoring) but that doesn't it mean it should be archived, it should be eliminated. It's player's choice which one they want to score on like all other puzzle games.

At the very least, if we want to keep recordings archived for puzzle-dama and tokkae-dama, it should be the normal mode recordings that are archived, not the special ones.

Setting the archives up the way they are now for these two games limits the difficulty for the player--these are the only games at MARP that do so.

Special versions to be eliminated

Post by ***PL*** »

QT, please reread my initial post. What I meant was that the -sp versions would be archived for 7 days (in case someone still wanted to view or D/L them). After that time they will be permanently deleted, except for possibly the Twin Bee shooter.
