Hi, new member and all that...

Post by Baby Bonnie Hood »

Hello, I'm Baby Bonnie Hood. I guess around here, I'd be "the other BBH" :P

So I've come across this site where people can show off their gaming skills. Pretty awesome, especially since I've been wanting to show off my skill on a certain unpopular game for quite some time now.

So I've read the rules, decided to make a recording, and now here I am with what I think is a very awesome INP of Twinkle Star Sprites. I dunno if I can upload it, though; it was done on Level 8, and I kinda share the initials of a certain someone here so I'm not sure how duplicate prefix names are dealt with.....

And there you have it. Let the new member hazing commence.....

Using Level 8 is quite fine, so long as you start with no NVRAM (ie: you deleted or otherwise blocked the .nv file from being created, and changed the settings at the beginning of the recording).

As for duplicate prefixes go, I don't think that the MARP scripts would allow it. Just use something like 'bbh2' :)

to elaborate a bit on what Barry said:

1. .nv (NVRAM) files are not allowed because they modify playback--we want everyone to start from the same position, so that only the player's actions influence the game. Some games create them after you've played them once, and store them in the NVRAM directory.

2. Level 8 is legal because it is harder than the MAME/MARP default (level 4). You can always submit for a game at harder-than-normal settings if you'd like. Easier than normal settings will be score-blocked.

3. To ensure your recording doesn't get blocked (w/ regards to leaderboard points) please use AlphaMAME or AlphaMAME32 to record your game. These are secure recording versions of MAME that allow us to make sure that you haven't cheated in your .inp. (sounds bad, but it happens). You can find these versions at:

http://marp.retrogames.com/exe/alphamame-070-1.zip (Win32 console)
http://marp.retrogames.com/exe/alphamame32-070-1.zip (Win32 GUI)

you'll have to manually copy the link you want into your browser.

4. Twinkle Star Sprites has a split, meaning you can record on the game either under twinspri-cm (character mode) or twinspri-sm (story mode). Both categories are worth leaderboard points and the scores are kept individually. Just be sure to upload to the appropriate one.

5. Barry is King Of Twinkleland. so beware his wrath ;)

6. Last of all, from those of us who work and play at MARP, thank you for having read the rules in advance.

Have fun! We'll see you in the uploads log.

cheers,
Q.T.Quazar

There, it's up. I hope it works fine...

mahlemiut: Initials don't go past 4 characters, so I guess I'm stuck with 'bb2'...

And I don't think 4 mil is possible; to get such a high score, every opponent must be as difficult as Memory and you must be able to pull off huge combos throughout as well as beat your opponents too. Unfortunately, opponents who aren't Dark Ran, Mevious, or Memory keep dying early... :x

Q.T.Quazar: So if Barry's the King, does that make me God? :D

Anyways, I get rid of the HI, CFG, and NVRAM directories before any playback/recording so my INP should playback just fine... I hope.....

Other BBH: I was created by Mevious' Bodyguards, so I'm superior to you in all areas! :D

It should, there are a few users who have 6 or 7 characters in their prefix.

No, that's reserved for the japanese dude that got 4 million. :)

Seriously though, very nice recording. =D> Perhaps I should start playing it again.

Your "short" username is yes...but you also have a "name" that can be much longer as you see on the scoreboard...or uploads page etc.

You could set that name to BBH2 or write out your whole Baby Bonnie Hood.

Now you tell me...

So I'm stuck with 'bb2'. Argh, if only 'bbh' wasn't already taken...

o_O?!? How is it that the Japs keep making insanely high scores?!? Oh yeah, and where might I find this 4-mil game?

Okay, so I'm not a god. I'll settle for demigod, then :D

Yeah, it sure is. Although, to be honest, I didn't think I'd win against Memory; everything was flying so fast and my bombs were disappearing so quickly that I was sure I'd lose (yet again). And then Sprites' boss shocks Memory out of nowhere; boom, just like that. It was so unbelievable..... 8O

While we're talking about TSS, I have a question.

Who's more powerful, Sprites or Memory? Both of their Extra Attacks are direct seekers; however, Sprites' boss has a lot of attacks (more than any other boss!). But you can't fight an AI Sprites and finding a human who can play a high-level Sprites is kinda out of the question, so there's no way to prove that she can be as difficult as Memory.

I wish Character Mode pitted random characters against you (then maybe I can finally fight normal Ran) instead of just using Story Mode's script. Dark Ran and Mevious would still be a required fight, but the last stage should have either Memory or Sprites. Now that's a Character Mode...
