It's a CPU sync/irq known issue, hence the GAME_UNEMULATED_PROTECTION flag...Frankie wrote: Birdie Try (Japan) - This was released in .63, but the game doesn't work properly as the screen goes black after the first course. Should be archived.
Golf games update.

Birdie King 3 - I've asked Pat to archive this .68 game as it seems to be broken. No matter how well you do on the first course, most of the time it ends the game after that first course. Like in Birdie King 1 & 2 you should at least get to play course 2 in every game, especially when you do course one in a PAR or better. It got the same problem on .69.

I'll have to check this out in VirtualPC on my Mac to see.Frankie wrote:Birdie King 3 - I've asked Pat to archive this .68 game as it seems to be broken. I don't think that's a reason to archive the game.
Birdie King #2 required birdies to earn an extra hole. By "course" I assume you mean hole. A par in BK2 won't earn you another hole. It does in BK1 though. It sort of makes sense with BK3 that it would be more "expensive" to play that game in an arcade...so less holes to start with and more strict requirements to earn another hole.
I'm surprised with the BK games anyway that MARP doesn't treat them as the other golf games where you play an entire 18 holes then subtract your #strokes for the 18 holes from 200 to get your "score"...regardless how many credits you had to go through.
It's certainly not a reason to archive the game unless it actually isn't working.
I would propose to allow 18 holes of play on it and score it like many of the other golf games at MARP.
If I understand right, it should be working in 0.70. Ask Kale.Frankie wrote:Birdie King 3 - I've asked Pat to archive this .68 game as it seems to be broken. Well, the problem with these games are that you don't get the chance to continue the game when you've missed your last course/hole. Therefore we can't play all holes. It was decided in a poll:LN2 wrote:I'm surprised with the BK games anyway that MARP doesn't treat them as the other golf games where you play an entire 18 holes then subtract your #strokes for the 18 holes from 200 to get your "score"...regardless how many credits you had to go through.

Nope,Birdie King 3 still doesn't work properly,I've fixed the MCU protection when changing settings in 0.68 cycle but it didn't get it because of SHA1 stuff, then re-submitted for 0.69 cycle and found this annoying bug...Frankie wrote:Thanks Barry. I'll try to remember that and then include it in the Special Rules that it must be played on .70 and up, when it actually works.mahlemiut wrote:If I understand right, it should be working in 0.70. Code: Select all
\-Game resets when not doing an "in the cup" result.
More specifically it writes to ROM region, then jumps to an unmapped area...
I don't know because I don't have that rom yet...Kale - What's up with Country Club?
Yeah Frankie and that's going back to OLDER versions of MAME that didn't 100% emulate BK1 or 2 properly.Frankie wrote:Well, the problem with these games are that you don't get the chance to continue the game when you've missed your last course/hole. When I played it in macmame0.66 I had the option to continue the game.
I didn't continue it though cuz wanted it for MARP scoring.
However, it seems at least for BK 1 and 2 you can continue and play out an entire 18 holes now...thus my comments above for these games.
Big Event Golf - Made Special Rules, which is:
Play all 18 holes, and use scoring system 200 - strokes.
How to play all 18 holes:
Insert 5 credits.
Press 1 for first 9 holes - '9-Hole'.
When you've played the first 9 holes, and it have shown the scoreboard it asks if you want to continue. Now insert 5 more credits, and press 1 on '9-Hole' again.

You should press button 1, usually Ctrl, to continue with the last 9 holes. Not the 1 player button.Frankie wrote:Big Event Golf -

Sorry but I think it's a wrong thing. This game is finishable in one credit. Blost send to us at jvrm an alphmame inp where he beat the game in one credit for Jvrm Summer Cup.Frankie wrote:Neo Turf Masters - The rules for the 4 courses have been updated. You can now play all 18 holes, no matter how many credits it takes. I'll work my way through the recordings and change the scores using the new scoring system.
I know its possible also in Major Title and I guess its possible on many other Golfing Games.
This rule is a good rule for some Basket Ball or Base Ball games but not for Golfing Games.
Francois
Francois, even though for some it's technically possible to finish on 1 credit, to do so requires a bit of luck getting a hole-in-one that awards several holes or shooting some insane score like 16-under-par for 18 holes.
If you had real cases other than 1 odd one you report from elsewhere here at MARP of players doing this then I would agree....but that isn't the case.
Even scores like Donut's 141 which is a great 59...likely required not even just 2 credits but 3 or even 4.
Golf is a different game. Your golf score should be based on a complete round when possible.
However, I do think the difference in "score" as a result of shooting an excellent 59 versus a 65 isn't large enough.
There is a huge difference between a 59 and a 65...yet in MARP score that's 141 vs 135...so only a 4-5% difference in awarded score.
I think that is what many have an issue with....not the fact multiple credits were allowed to play the entire round.
The special rules scoring could be more along the lines of 100 points - 10*(strokes relative to par).... so if you shot a 7 under 65, that would be 100-(-7*10) = 170...and that 13 under 59 would be worth 230 in score.
If someone shoots a 5 over round that would only be a score of 50. More than 10 over par and it's not worth a score. Of course there are a few cases where this would need adjustment cuz +10 is a good score at a couple of these games.
230 vs 170 is a nearly 30% difference...which is better than it only being a 4-5% difference.
If you base it on #holes played on 1 credit then someone getting lucky getting a hole-in-one gets several holes awarded to them...and a huge difference in score from #holes played just from that 1 lucky shot result versus someone more skilled at the game but not getting lucky enough to get a hole-in-one. No way that's fair.
