Question about confirmation process

Post by MiSchmi »

Hi,
I justed looked at the 'confirms'-list and saw that, for example zlk confirmed a lot of inputs today and that the the time between each confirmation is something about between 2 and 7 minutes. Now I am wondering how the confirmation process works.

Does the confirmer watch the complete input (probably not, even my short crazy kong games will take more than 20 minutes each)?
Is there something like a 'fast forward' when playing back inputs?
Or is it even possible to jump to a certain position when playing back inputs?
bye,
michael

Yes, for most games on playback of the inp you can turn the throttle off(F10) and watch the gameplay really fast.

For some with fast CPUs they might be able to play a game like Crazy Kong back at 10 times speed so even an hour game would only take 6 minutes to view and confirm.

However, my guess there is he watched many in a session then just confirmed them all at MARP afterward.

It wouldn't be as productive to view 1 inp, then goto MARP web site and confirm...then watch another etc.

Wow, that's really cool, watching mario running like hell. :)
And I watched the playbacks always at normal speed and waited until it reached the interesting part.
Now, I only need something like 'Rewind'.

Probably not, I was only wondering about the gaps of something like 5 minutes between the confirms. But, to be honest, my main interest was not in the way a confirmer works but in the 'fast forward'-thing

yeah the more you learn about mame the cooler it is :) and don't forget you can get an extra boost of speed by using frameskipping (F8/F9) AND nothrottling (F10), this makes mame draw less frames and thus making have to do a little less work to make the time pass faster. But becarefull with this option "-frameskip 11" some games require frameskip 0 to playback properly, even mame's default -frameskip auto may not play back somegames where frameksip 0 is required.

If I am interested in the game or see something bizarre in the gameplay, I will watch the entire inp in normal speed. Otherwise I will just hit f10 and watch the demo go by in fast forward. I have a p4-2530 so some demos go by really, really fast using f10.

yeah on systems that fast using F10 to turn off the throttle makes the playback so so fast you can't really see what's going on.

I know when I have visited my friend and done this on his PC you really can't view it that way.

I am semi-happy my mac is slower so even with throttle off the game plays back at perhaps 200-300% so it's at a speed I actually can still watch it and catch if anything odd happens.

It would be cool though if mame had options for F10.

Instead of it just being throttle on/off, perhaps there could be some preference for it where it's "on" at the standard game setting...but then press F10 to throttle to a max of 180 fps or 240 fps etc. based on the option value for it.

That way those with really fast systems could still control the actual speed of the playback so they can still see what's actually happening.

I just watched a few a games at full speed and thereafter I tried to play at normal speed. It felt as if I am playing in slow motion, but unfotunately that doesn't make me a better player (I also die in slow motion :) ).
I am still thinking about the 'rewind'-thing. Is it possible to record the content of a window as an avi. I know that there are tools that do this for snapshots (jpg, bmp,...).

Do you see anything? I have a Celeron 900 and even on my computer I think the playback may be a little bit slower.

That would be great. You could even set it to 30 fps or 15 fps to watch the playback in slow motion (Or is there already another possibility for this?).

You could pause, and then keep tapping Shift+P :)

The only recordings I confirm are ones of which i have a genuine interest in. Some of the replays sent in take hours of practice and when a good score is achieved, we are proud. We want recognition. It is inconsiderate to speed through someones' prized inp.I view replays at normal speed. Perhaps more people are needed to validate submissions? What about novice, fx king ,TTYF or wrx2. Can they be persons who verify?I have taken a month away from MARP. Have been playing Tomb Raider 4.

I don't mind confirming recordings. I often playback other peoples inps but don't have the facility to confirm the score. Who do I need to email about this, is it you Barry?

Ahh A tombraider fan! I love those games too, and I must say that the 4rth part was the trickiest, and it took so damn long time to finish! At least if you want all the secrets :)

If confirmers wouldn't do that there would be a lot less confirmed recordings.

Hehe I love pandemonium too :) I think that Angel of darkness will be released in early June. At least they say so. Both for ps2 an pc :)

And yes.. I´m obsessed by finding all secrets in the tombraider games. I often do that the 2nd time I play through a tombraider game. The first time I just enjoy it as much as I can and I don´t search 100% for the secrets :) First time == no hints allowed or guides etc :) After that I often buy the official guide to the game and finds everything hehe

Same with Zelda, final fantasy, and hmmmm Resident evil!!
