This would be Karate Champ (US)
tried playing it back in Mame34 (both from MARP and Mame.net) and didnt even coin up...
Playing it on Mame32 .64 it would coin up and press the 1 player start button, but that would be the end of the interaction.
Can someone please
A) tell me if Im halucinating?
B) Is there something Im missing?

It would help if you gave the link for which inp you are talking about...so perhaps others can try it also.
It could easily be a sound option/issue or frameskip.
Some games are very picky about those settings.
It might also require speed throttle be on...if you were trying to watch it with that off.

As a matter of fact it is yours TJT, I tried Marp's Mame34 as well as both mame.dk's and mame.net mame34 with no go. (Doesn't coin up on that edition) and suprisngly when taken into the current mame (WinMame .61) it does coinup and start (leads me to think you hit a 5 instead of a 3 (3/4 was coin in 34 cycle) I am wondering.
To tell you the truth, I wanted to see it to see your score, but as I try and try I can't get anything to go? Anyone else?

Works ok for me. Even when I have different computer now.
Try renaming the inp to kchamp.inp ...some of these early versions do not recognize too long inp names...dossssss
Anyway, this is what I did to get it playback:
1 Downloaded kchamp.zip from mame.dk
2 Downloaded http://marp.retrogames.com/exe/mame34.zip
3 Downloaded http://marp.retrogames.com/inp/tjt_kcha ... mame34.zip
Created new folder m34, created subfolders inp, roms, cfg
1 goes to roms, no unzipping
2 goes to m34
3 goes to inp, name changed to kchamp.inp
Clicked dosprompt, got small window, pressed alt-enter to get it big.
Cd m34
Tested if the game works: mame34 kchamp -worked, exited mame
Playbacked it, mame34 kchamp -playback kchamp
soundcard 1
Worked just fine, even with f10...
I have win98 now, and had it back then too, maybe nt or such has problems.

sorry for not responding sooner, this playsback fine with mame32 34 (gotta have the same version) and you must specify kchamp (not kchampvs) as the game to playback when trying to playback.
the current mame release rom works too, didn't need to extract older versions to make it playback the first time.
the dos mame from marp doesn't work well with newer windows, try the mame32 version of mame34, it worked for me in windows XP.
http://marp.retrogames.com/exe/mame3234.zip
you also may need old zlib.dll and midas.dll from other locations.
