Who is this guy?
He has only been at MARP since mid-December and he already has 81 first place scores.
That's about 1 a day.
Many of the games he is playing actually can take a few hours to just play it once. Most of his games aren't the 15 minute type games where you could play it several times a day and learn it and set a good score.
Is this 1 person or some team?
It seems a little unrealistic 1 person could be so good they could set the top scores for all those games in 3 months.
Is he playing 10+ hours a day?
Even then it seems odd someone would be able to kick butt at so many different games. Most are shooter/fighter games but now the past few days I see he has posted some mspac scores.
Even with those shooter games it takes a lot of playing to learn where the enemies are coming out etc. to get really high scores as he is doing. Had he already mastered all of those then joined MARP to upload scores?
Just wondering cuz I wouldn't think even the best gamers in the world would be able to amass that many top scores in such a short period of time...at least for those types of games. It would be different if half of his scores were for the short-time racing and other type games where each play only last 5-10 minutes.
WRX2, please don't be offended by the above. Overall it's a compliment...but just wondering how much time you are playing these games each day? How many attempts/games played before you set a high score? It can't be more than a couple for most.

summary: maybe 10% of his first submited scores were flagged for autofire/slowdowns, we asked him to rerecord to tgmame , after about a week he did submit with alphamame (which all of his tgmame recordings were not flaged for autofire/slowdown as well as being correct reported speed), then complained his scores were not being confirmed fast enough, so he went back to recording with regular mame.
he enjoys shooters mostly but his mspacman scores are good, don't know why he went back to the regular mame, keep the alphamame dream alive.

Have you watched the mspacman-fast scores?
I just confirmed the mspacmab-fast & got part way through the mspacman-fast before work got in the way. He is either extremely, precisely, talented or these are using slowdown. There are mistakes in them, but not enough to convince *me* that these were 100% speed - or even close.

I think in this case it's very suspect.
Why would someone go using so many different versions of mame for even a game like mspac?
mspac plays fine in any version since 0.37.
In "recent"(last 25 hours) uploads for 6 scores from WRX2 these versions have been used:
win62
mame61
mame64
dmame65
win64
hmm...6 more scores reported in the last 25 hours for games that take a while to play once and in 5 different versions of mame.
Can you even physically play all of those within a 25 hour period?
Even if each game takes like 1-2+ hours you are talking up to 10 hours just to play them...and get a high score on 1 attempt each time.
Those that have been confirming the games...time these new ones and see how long the actual game time adds up to. I am not familiar with most of those shooter games so have no idea how long it takes to complete them or reach a certain stage/area/level, etc.
If he is 1 person it almost gives the impression perhaps he is taking inps from another high score site or other people and submitting them as his own or something.
I think his excuse in that other thread that scores aren't confirmed fast enough for him using alphamame is bogus and yet another sign something isn't quite right. It makes no sense for him to be using so many different versions of mame after giving the excuse he can't be bothered with using alphamame.
He bothers himself using several different mames to play even within a 25 hour period.
However, it's one of the reasons I think WRX2 might be a team instead of just 1 person. Several people as a team would perhaps use different versions of mame to play. It's also what you would see if he is getting the scores from other sites or people etc. and reclaiming them as his own and submitting to MARP.
Also as I stated before unless he had already mastered all of those various shooter games, those scores must be suspect. No way anyone could master and accomplish all of those at the rate of 1 per day.
Sorry WRX2....just all the evidence points to that. As stated previously by others you either are the best gamer in the world or somehow cheating.

hehe...well, that had me notice him more....cuz I got e-mail notices for those. I'll reclaim the top scores for those. For a few I hadn't really played them much to get a top score. I haven't played them in months since those scores. I'll get back to those soon...got burned out on all those pacman type games for a while...needed a break from them.BBH wrote:funny how you didn't care about him until he uploaded a 1st place on a Ms Pacman romset
Even when I do there is no way I could do a few in 1 day like WRX2 did. My one mspacmab-fast run to 860k took me about 3-4 hours. Think about it..even if you complete screens fast taking about 1 minute for each that would require about 2.5 hours. I played mspac for 3-4 years back in the 80s...so am an expert at it....and if I have time for some practice and regular speed games I hope to join the elite for that game. It takes several hours to play 1 game of it at regular speed though...and lot's of mental endurance. It's not like some other games you can fairly easily play for 5-10 hours cuz you get tons of extra men or cuz it's a repeated patterned type game.
WRX2 is on pace to surpass even you BBH in only another 5-6 months.
He will be in the top 10 in another month if he keeps uploading at this rate.
Prior to those almost all his scores were for shooter/fighter games...which I haven't even touched in MAME yet. I am not even familiar with most of those games.
I did participate in that other WRX2 thread though where he complained about confirmation times. At that time though he likely only had about half the scores submitted he does now and I hadn't looked at his scores closely so I didn't suspect much then.
Someone should go through his scores and chart them by date. It seems the past few weeks the #uploads from him for top scores for games that take a while to play even once are increasing. It might just be I'm more sensitive to it now also.
Yes, I have the same doubt.
I don't know shooter/fighter games and I don't known if all these record are right.
If are ok he is the best shoot player of all time. But have this man a real life or he play 24H/a day ?
But the most strange thing is this MS. Pac-man score. That record is impossible without play the game for years.. or he is a genius.
I don't know, but I remember 20 years ago 4-5 italian players with a lot of scores that Marp can only dream.

Well, that only can be concluded after watching his inp.DaviL wrote:But the most strange thing is this MS. Pac-man score. That record is impossible without play the game for years.. or he is a genius.
Depending on how he plays I would be able to tell just how experienced this played is at mspac(normal edition) at least.
Playing it in turbo mode generally doesn't require much as far as grouping the monsters etc...just a very general understanding of how they move. However, that score suggests he is eating most of the monsters which would require grouping techniques.
I think later tonight I'll watch that in VirtualPC on my mac.
I set the top score for the mspacmab-fast version(same as mspac...just bootleg) and didn't have his score and had eaten most of the monsters except for a few of the junior style boards where at turbo speed I didn't bother trying to group and eat them. It would require some slight modifications to my techniques cuz at turbo speed some of my moves just don't have the right timing cuz you are moving fast.
anyway, I'll watch it and judge it for mspac skill.
my opinion of his mspac play was that hey doesn't have a perfect understanding of grouping monsters but he does wait for them to come together, you can also see him getting "nervous" about getting the last ghost because he's unsure of how fast they will turn back. Then there are times where he is nearly absolutley sure when they will turn and gets lucky when he gets a ghost right before the go back... I don't think i would say he is cheating on these but we can only be sure if he records with tgmame again, something it looks like he'll do only if he's constaly pestered.
Another note, tgmame you can't use 'P' to pause and analyze the game to cheat but you can cause mame to pause with other means and tgmame will detect this. One of the tgmame recordings has "pauses" in it, a place where a single frame speed of the recording goes below 30%. I've accepted (dismissed) it as accidental alt-tabing back to windows and the operating system pauses mame for a few seconds, because usually an advantageous pauses indicates a speed of below 5% and his pause speed was in the teens. But, i'll still be watching :)

I just finished watching his 889,260 run of mspacman-fast and it plays to the score reported so I confirmed it. The game time was about 3 hours.Chad wrote:my opinion of his mspac play was that hey doesn't have a perfect understanding of grouping monsters but he does wait for them to come together, you can also see him getting "nervous" about getting the last ghost because he's unsure of how fast they will turn back. It's exactly as you say Chad. I don't suspect this play at all. In fact it was exactly what I expected of his play to reach the kill screen. However, his score was deceiving here because normally you have to eat nearly all of the monsters and all the fruit to reach a 890k type score.
He understands how the monsters move at only an average player's level or very slightly above average...but has really good vision of the board and where the monsters are and can potentially go so can avoid trouble most of the time. Yes, I counted at least 3-4 times he saved himself from what I thought was certain death. I'm guessing I would have died at least a couple places there he survived from not being able to wiggle the way he does.
However, he doesn't group the monsters at all really and doesn't know any sit spots etc. I'm guessing mspac at regular speed he might be able to get 150-200k but that's about it. He reminds me of a friend that used to play with us at the same arcade that didn't understand grouping them or sit spots etc. that much either but man he was the best among us for vision of the board. Once he gets past the boards where they turn blue he is history. To survive the "slow" boards, you need to fully understand how the monsters move and group them and get them in sit spots to do certain moves safely.
However, WRX2 got great fruit the entire game. He had the kind of fruit that you likely would get one out of every 1000+ games played or maybe even 1 out of 10,000 played. It was amazing fruit.
He didn't eat tons of monsters and even missed a few fruit. The points lost from missed items totalled 71,800. He would have had a potential score that game of 961,060...easily setting the world record for it, if he had eaten all of the monsters and all of the fruit. He would have cleared it by 15-20k...so didn't even have to eat all of the monsters...but most. I'm not sure of the official world record for turbo mspac but I think it's in the 935-940k range. I have seen a camera picture for a 950k score but the game wasn't recorded so it can't be recognized as a record.
I ate 30-40k more points in monsters and only didn't finish the last 2 boards in my 846k run. Even if I finished the last 2 boards my score would have been around 860k tops. That shows you the difference a great fruit game versus a slightly below average fruit game can make.
He got about 60k more points in fruit than I got in my game.
It's ok...cuz I had done that on the other rom set. I'll play and hopefully top 900k sometime soon...just need semi-decent fruit.
I'll likely post the fruit thing to Twin Galaxies cuz we have had some threads about the fruit in mspac and this game is by far the best fruit game I have ever seen....lucky bastard.
Interesting comments on tgmame there. I guess it could even be where some background thing dominated the CPU for 5 seconds type of thing. I get that on my mac once in a while where the OS is checking for new software updates from Apple. There are a few other things the OS does also at times that delays macmame some. It only lasts about 5 seconds though and generally screws me up cuz the gameplay is stuttering during those few seconds. I wouldn't DQ any scores just because of a few freak slow seconds here and there.
It would be nice to know what CPU WRX2 has. It's funny how he hasn't replied in this thread at all...hmmm. Maybe he doesn't participate in the forums really unless he has something to post.
