I want to up load some games and want to make sure I don't waste anyones time so I have a few questions.
Does it matter which version of MAME I am using? Currently I am using MAME32 ver .59. Do I just need to let you know which version I have when I upload? This may be a dumb question as I have downloaded some .inp files from other users and they have all worked fine on my end, but I would like to make sure.
Also, my OS should not make a difference either way right? I am a little outdated with win98.
Is there anything that is not listed in the guidlines listed on the main site that I may have to watch for?
Thanks for the advice!!
New and have questions on recordings

yeah you should be fine with mame32v59, just remember to always state the correct mame version used in the submit menu. More often or not you'll end up recording with different mame versions at different times. There have been some issues with OSes (even between windows oses) not playing back a recording even when the same mame.exe is used, but it's not something to be concerned about if you remember which OS you used when people come attacking that they can't play it back.
First and foremost, playback your recordings before recording! This seems the simplest thing to do but it gets overlooked a lot. Not only does this verify playbackability but it ensures you got the score right instead of remembering what that 15 digit gigawing score it was after you pressed escape. Also, it gives you a chance to study your play for improvements later. Next are the NVRAMs, which is discussed pretty much every where at marp; Delete your nvram directory. Having nvrams is convenient for playing mame alone but reaks havoc for maintaing playbackability of recordings, so just delete it after every mamexxx.zip install. The rest is just know your settings, since some games are finikey to have the same settings set at playback time in order for proper playback, especial sound/nosound.
Finally, if you find you can't playback a recording (even if it is confirmed) please post the relevant urls into marp at the Playbackability Topic; and you'll proly get a response with "oh here are the right settings to get it to playback" or "oops i'll make another recording that does playback"...
