GURU need help

Somewhere for the annoying and/or off-topic threads to go. Feel free to post about whatever, but abuse will still be dealt with, and possibly with more force. Especially pac-porno. ;)

GURU need help

I have located one of the rarest early 80's Taito games ever made, which has become available from a collector. But as you're aware, rare always means expensive. The Dumping Project has been actively purchasing PCBs for dumping for a long time and all of our money has been completely exhausted. This means we are unable to come up with the purchase price of US$1300. I can't mention the name of the game yet, but the fact that it is EXTREMELY expensive, one of the Most Wanted Taito games out there and is EXTREMELY rare should give you some idea of the importance of securing this PCB now.
I'm hoping everyone who enjoys MAME will donate a few bucks towards it so we can preserve this rare PCB for everyone.

I've made it very easy, just click the PAYPAL donate button to the right to donate directly to the Dumping Project's Financial Controller.
Alternatively, you can donate to Mameworld via their PAYPAL link, stating your donation is for The Dumping Project. Every little bit counts so please help us out if you can. Thanks!!

Yeah, thats bit strange. Maybe there is some potential competition from "collectors". Could be a fixed buy now price at ebay, and again avoiding competition.

Good chance for you to give back to MAME project though. Bonus is knowing that money goes to purchasing early 80's rare game and not for romkidz faves...

Many collectors have the opinion that MAME is evil incarnate, and will do practically anything to stop a PCB from falling into the hand of someone related to the MAME project.

Collectors often have more money than sense. :)

Looking over the "most-wanted" dumps list of Taito games, eliminating any not from the early 80's, clones, and laserdisc games, gives me this list (games listed by KLOV are linked):

"Astro Zone" (1980, 8080bw hardware)
"Astro Zone" (on "Safari" hardware, 1980)
"Big Combat" (1982)
"Black Beetles" (1980)
"Black Widow" (1981?) -- only about 50 made, first game on Qix/Zookeeper hardware
"Change Colors" (1984)
"Cosmopolis" (ever finished/released?, c. 1984) -- developed by Taito America, not the same as the Sun Electronics game
"Frog and Spiders" (1981)
"Outer Zone" (1984)
"Rumba Lumber" (1984)
"Seafly" (1984)
"Space Cyclone" (1980, "Safari" hardware)
"Speed Race GP V" (1980)
"Steel Worker" (1980)
"Super Speed Race GP V" (1980)
"Tri-Attacker" (1981)

The Project's Japanese contact informed the rest of the Project personnel immediately, and you guys responded to Guru's appeal for funds in heroic fashion. Your contributions were sent to the Japanese contact, who began withdrawing them from PayPal (which takes a couple of days to process in Japan) and asked the seller if the Project could make a downpayment on the board, with full purchase to follow soon.

The seller (who AFAIK is still advertising the PCB for sale) responded, "Sorry, the board is not available."

I have to consume massive quantities of vodka every night just to get to sleep knowing that Steel Worker isn't in MAME yet. I can only imagine how the rest of the MARP community similarly suffers.

You have to figure the PCB holder(s) know that ROM values drop once a game has been MAMEd. What did the bid get up to when they refused to honor the auction?

Some good news! Regarding the PCB mentioned below, we have located another one from a different place. We are organising the deal now and I will keep you posted about it's progress :-)
Also, a B-I-G thanks to all of the generous people who donated towards acquiring it.
Here you can see a clip of the steel worker in action. In the backrow, second from the left.

With the release of 0.132u1 George will have to find another excuse for the vodka consumption.

Tough game for me to pick up using directional keys. Perhaps it will be easier with a gamepad.
