Funspot Logic Problem

Somewhere for the annoying and/or off-topic threads to go. Feel free to post about whatever, but abuse will still be dealt with, and possibly with more force. Especially pac-porno. ;)

Funspot Logic Problem

Post by Weehawk »

At this year's Funspot Tournament, five veteran gamers from the 80's met once again and reminisced about the Golden Era of videogaming. They recalled how each one had a different nickname in the 80's, one of them being called "The Kid". They also noted that each still held the world record on a different classic arcade game from the 80's, and that each had come a long way, all coming different distances to attend the tournament. Given the clues below, you are to determine for each player: their full name, their nickname from the 80's, the game they hold the record on, and the distance they traveled to Funspot.

1) Les, who is not the player whose nickname was "Bluto", traveled 200 miles more than Mr. Gold to attend the tournament; both say that Blade Runner was their favorite movie of the 80's.

2) Mr. Hayes did not come the fewest miles (which was 300).

3) The player who had the nickname "Maverick" traveled twice as far to the tournament as Mr. Martin, who is not Todd.

4) The player whose nickname in the 80's was "Iceman", who is not Mr. Gold, and the player who holds the record for Gorf both played at Aladdin's Castle in 1983.

5) The player once nicknamed "Flash" traveled 200 miles further than the one who holds the record on Moon Patrol. They both name Escape from New York as their favorite movie of the 80's.

6) Neither Billy nor Ben holds the record on Tron.

7) Mr. Martin does not hold the record on Centipede.

8 ) Don's nickname in the 80's was not "Flash".

9) Todd traveled 200 miles farther than the Gorf record holder to get to Funspot; the Gorf record holder says his favorite movie of the 80's was fast Times at Ridgemont High.

10) The player whose nickname was "Bluto", who isn't Mr. Mitchell, and the Tron record holder brought along photo albums their exploits in the Golden Era.

11) The player who cam the farthest, who doesn't hold the Tron record, traveled 1,000 miles to Funspot, coming farther than the player who had been nicknamed "Iceman".

12) Billy, who isn't the one that holds the record on Joust, and Mr. Rogers both remember staying awake for more than 48 hours during marathons in the 80's.

13) Mr. Mitchell doesn't hold the record on Moon Patrol.

Please do not post answers to this thread. For the first person to PM me the correct answer, I have a Golden Era Game of the Week t-shirt:

If you already have a shirt on the way, you are not eligible for another, but of course you are welcome to play for fun.

I've posted this on two forums, same person can't win on both.

A previously unknown gentleman has answered on the other forum. I'll still take a winner on this forum as well.

And if he reads this, I'll depend on the honor system to prevent his giving the answers to anyone else to collect here.

We now have a correct answer here as well.

The TJT PM'ed me with the solution.

I will wait a while before I post the answers and an explanation of the reasoning for the benefit of those who might still want to work on it without the temptation to peek.
