Reward: $50 (usd)

Deadline for submission to MARP: September 9, 2005 2359 hours GMT

Further Bounty: $100 (usd) for exceeding my own modest submission of 35,590 points by December 31, 2005. Only those persons credited in the “whatsnew.txt” file in one of the last 20 MAME releases (.80 through .99) as having made a contribution to that release will be eligible. Also, as always, the further bounty is a one-time award to the first person to reach the mark.

Damn the analog overflow. I want to see what people can do on this one.

Some info is at:

Use WolfMAME .99

"On Deck" game: Check Man

Note to all:

This might be a game where finding the exact analog sensitivity setting that works best for you is crucial.

In KOZA's early entry, for example, it looks like his might be a little low.

Try that thing on the pad to the right...with the cable going to it.

I'll be shocked if anyone can do well on this without analog control, but then you people do shock me sometimes.

Two questions:

1) In which MAME release were you credited with a contribution?

2) What numbers look good to you for next week's lottery?

Thanks guys :)

I knew it was marathonable but not from my own personal experience on the game (my high on the real arcade machine at Funspot is about 32K). However, I know the TG scores were in the millions, and at my hometown arcade in the 80's I remember seeing high scores well over 900K.

The real thing that make it marathonable is that the score you get for catching a balloon keeps increasing so the hardest part of the game is actually when you first get into the 5x racks. By the end, I was scoring about 1K for each blue balloon. I didn't count how many men I killed off at the end.

That explains a lot.

This appears to be a MAME game where, like Marble Madness, using non-analog control actually offers an advantage over analog.

How long was your game? (It's playing in the back ground as I type this.)

Edit-

I counted 46.

377,000 frames would be about 1 hour 45 minutes.

I knew this was marathonable on the real machine, but didn't expect anyone to do it in MAME, thinking analog control was necessary for high-level play.

This then, is a game that screams for 5 man scoring. Don has agreed.

Note well: We will only count the score after the 5th death (remember not to count the challenge racks) for GEGOTW purposes.

Since this only came up after Don's performance, out of fairness to him I would not have done it without his consent. Don is a great sport as well as a great player.

Don scored 69,940 on his first 5 men.

He may actually have to play the damn thing again.
