February 13, 2002 - George Weller Found
from Walter Day
George Weller, the man who has held the Karate Champ world record since 1986, has emerged from the mists. George is looking for a Karate Champ machine to try and break his record of 239,900 points. He broke Jack Gale's score of 235,000 which was achieved during Twin Galaxies' 1985 Coronation Day Championship in Los Angeles, California.

Heeheehee, I wonder when they'll really start updating M.A.M.E. scores into database/book...

Is the version you got 247K on a lot harder than the one you got 999K on?

Nope, they are almost different games. Bit like Joust vs Joust2.

Karate Champ 1 (999) was bit earlier, a bit harder at early stages imho.
Gameplay(read tactics)is different between these versions, because of how computer opponents react for your tactics. Both versions test similar skills anyway(most important is timing) and have same moves and controls.

The score differs so much, because kchamp does not have an ending, I just didn't want to roll the score over back to zero...don't know why though, really doesn't matter when your mameing.

Check out TG-record for Karate Champ1 8)
