power saving graphics problems/options

hey chaps,
due to affordability in my household power consumption, i have just disabled my graphics card, in a bid to save energy.
once rebooted, wolf150 will not work. i get the prompt : "proposed video mode not supported on device."
i know there are different video modes, so what can i do to get wolf150 to work normally, using my pc's basic graphics onboard chipset?
i just tried wolf106, and the screen is all different, stretched horizontally and squashed. i'm sure i can mes with the gui settings on 106, but don't know about wolf150.
has anybody any suggestions? i'm in a deep hole at the moment, and don't want to be giving up using MAME.
thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have.

Run in a window, that doesn't require changing video modes. You may also need -video ddraw, as the current D3D code doesn't like Intel integrated chipsets.

ok! lol!
i don't know what i'm doing, but i changed the video config from "d3d" to "dd".
the game fired up, in the correct ratio, even though the graphics were a bit 8-bit.
trouble is, nothing worked, could not play, screen flickered, and i needed the task manager to exit.
well, that's 1 step closer, anyhoo!!!
:)

ok,
i set video back to "d3d", then tried "mame outzone -window".
did not work.
changed back to "dd", started game with "mame outzone -window", game info page popped up, but cannot move on from there. pressing any key does nothing...
