I use it, and yes, you should too. If you need a guide for it, its easy to find one using Google.

clrmame is good as long as you are always useing current versions of mame, But be carefull because it can remove old roms while preping for the latest rom versions and thusly some wolf106 games will fail to play after you "cleanup" with clrmame.

It's not all that hard to manage files within zips, which is all romsets are. Windows can handle them without any help. ROM managers are useful for large conversions and so on, but in general, all you need is Windows Explorer (or the equivalent for your OS).

yeah, chaps!
you took the complaints out of my mouth!!!
i'm actually surprised i got it to work!
just before i clicked "go", i made a backup of my roms folder!! PHEW!!!
MY WOLF149 WORKING ROMS WENT UP FROM 2020 TO 2500!!
and my 106 went from 2000 down to 1750.
to use this with multiple mames, i'd need a roms folder for each mame, or at least every ten mames, like all the 140's, all the 130's, etc. too much, man!!
also, some games have stopped working.
getting to know how it works gives me a better idea of how MAME works. it's all very technical. and superb.
i don't have a clue what i'd do with myself if i didn't have MAME.
cheers all!!

Windows can handle zip files natively. You can easily add or remove files from any zip file, or check a file's CRC (if it's within a zip).

Of course, if your ROMs are in 7-zip files, then you will need an extra program to open those (7-zip itself, or I think Winzip can use them too).

I have one advantage on Linux, where with any romset that has changed it's name only, I can just make a link to the old file, and call the link the new name. This way you can use either filename to access the same file, and it uses up minimal disk space. I've heard that there is an equivalent function on Windows if you're using NTFS, but not sure how to find it...

How hard is it to understand files within a zip? Windows pretty much treats zip files as a compressed folder (which is what it actually calls them).
