Tournament 6 - Comments about games voting

Post by lagavulin »

Before the voting period ends next sunday, I'd like to hear your opinion about the vote of certain games who are very similar of other games that have already been used in previous tournaments and are therefore forbidden.

For example, should I allow the vote of Joust, even if Joust 2 is forbidden :?:

Here follows the complete list of my "doubts" :

Joust ( joust 2 already used )
Super Street Fighter II ( Sf2 already used )
Spelunker 2 ( spelunker already used )
Puzzle Bobble 2 ( PB already used )
19xx - The War Against Destiny , and 1941 ( 1942 already used )
Metal Slug 2 ( mslug already used )
Wonderboy 3 ( wonderboy already used )

Another thing, a little bit different :

Time Pilot Time Pilot 84 are not clones, but are very similar. Can I accept both votes ? Same case for 19xx and 1941 :?:

Thanks for telling me your opinions.

Cheers.

I would opinionize that most of the "already" used clone or sequals shown above are ok for the current tournament, but the clone or sequals shouldn't be used in the same tournament 19xx and 1941 even though they are fairly different. Nice going on the comparison report! Have you checked for "too slow" games yet?

Hmm you know... I would say screw it... don't allow them... realizing of course I did vote for 19xx.... if this does go through as a no go [since there's still tons of other games as it is], then I am more then happy to pick something new and make no gripe or complaint about it :)

so far the only games I've seen voted for that would be unplayable for me due to speed issues are hydra, popnpop, and maybe finehour

So ... any more opinions on that ? I thought editors at least could tell what they think. Only one of them did it ...

About speed, I noticed some problems with hydra, and maybe puzzloop, but I didn't really check all the games yet. Here also, I'm asking for help. Please tell me here if you think one game voted for could be unplayable on slow computers ( average frame rate > 95% ).

I forgot something ... We'll probably play with the new alphamame63 version. It allows confirmers to see easily the average frame rate.

If you want, you can vote for games from the 63.

If you didn't vote yet : you can vote for all the games you want, including 63, under conditions specified in the Voting thread.

If you already voted : you can replace one of your game by a game of the 63. In that case, please indicate clearly the game you replace.

Please do that in the correct thread, not here.

Cheers

BBH, you forgot about Puzz Loop, that's quite slow (ie: pretty heavy frameskip at times) for me with sound on.

These games are all sequels and no clones except perhaps Spelunker and Joust 2 because I don't know them. But for the others, they are very different than their prequel and they aren't the same game.

Two months ago I've tested some Super Kaneko Nova System games(Gals Panic S and Cyvern) on a P2 400Mhz and they didn't get over 50% with frameskipping.
Puzz Loop is slow even for a 800Mhz CPU BTW...
